Hello, I am Zubeda Hassan, the founder of Tabasamu La Jamii. I’m 30 years old, born in Tanzania’s Arusha region. My journey with this organization is deeply rooted in my personal history. In the fourth grade, our lives took a challenging turn when we lost our father. Left alone with my two younger sisters, and our mother, who was a homemaker with no income, we faced financial and emotional struggles.

In 2004, our lives began to change when volunteers who came to live in our house as their homestay from a Western company stepped in to help. Their support ensured we had food, clothing, and access to education. They became the reason for our smiles returning. With their assistance, I pursued my education, culminating in a degree in project planning and management and community development from the University of Dodoma, Tanzania.

My mother, with a dream to start a volunteer organization, unfortunately, passed away two years ago. I made a promise to her that I would carry on her dream. After securing a job and saving diligently, I established Tabasamu La Jamii. Our mission is to bring smiles and stability to communities facing hardships, just as we did.

I am grateful for the unwavering support of my team members, family, and friends who have been integral to this journey. Through Tabasamu La Jamii, we have visited centers for orphans, widowed mothers, and schools for disabled and special needs children. Yet, there is still much to be done.

I extend an invitation to all those willing to join us in making a difference. Through our organization, we welcome volunteers to visit Tanzania, contributing their skills in teaching, agriculture, animal husbandry, and more. Together, let’s bring back smiles, hope, and build community stability.

Your support is invaluable. Join us in fulfilling the legacy of my mother and making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.
